KidZui's "What Kids Think" Poll Takes Aim
at the Gulf Oil Spill

35% of Kids Place Responsibility on BP and 15% Think the Oil Spill
Won't be Cleaned Up in their Lifetime, if Ever

SAN DIEGO, CA -- August 4, 2010 -- KidZui, the leading developer of the award-winning Internet browser for kids, today announced interesting results of its inaugural “What Kids Think” poll, which focused on the Gulf Oil Spill. By tapping into its community of millions of parents and kids, KidZui was able to attain the perspective of kids ages 3-12 on this disaster. Despite the fact that kids will likely be impacted the most over the years by this spill, their voices have largely gone unheard until now.

"Because KidZui makes the Internet such an open experience for kids to play and discover, they become very engaged," said Cliff Boro, KidZui CEO. "With that in mind, we knew we had an opportunity to tap into the pulse of what kids think about the oil spill and share their thoughts with the world. Kids today are very aware of environmental issues and the KidZui poll reflects that trend."

The poll invited kids to participate through the KidZui browser interface and featured four multiple-choice questions. Below is an overview of the results.

How are you learning about the oil spill?
According to the poll results, a vast majority of kids, 48%, are learning about the oil spill from TV news. Conversely, only 8% of kids say they’re learning about the spill online despite the increasing number of hours spent by children on the Internet each year. About 9% of kids admit that they don’t know much about the oil spill.

How is the oil spill affecting your life?
When asked how the spill has impacted their lives, 46% of kids say they are "bummed out" by the mess, while 28% don’t think about it, and 26% feel as though their "world is upside-down".

How long do you think it will take to clean up the oil spill?
A challenge for even the world’s foremost scientists to estimate, 36% of kids think it will take years. Another 36% of kids optimistically think it will take months to clean the oil spill. Surprisingly, 7% of kids think the spill will not be cleaned up in their lifetime and an additional 8% of kids think it will never be cleaned up.

Who do you think is responsible for the oil spill?
While an overwhelming majority of American adults feel BP is to blame for the oil spill, only 35% of kids feel the global energy giant is at fault. That may be attributed to the 25% who are unsure of who’s to blame, as well as the 16% that see the US Government as the responsible party.

Over 3,200 children participated in KidZui’s "What Kids Think" Poll, which was conducted from June 15 to July 15, 2010. KidZui plans to launch periodic "What Kids Think" polls surrounding current events to ensure kids’ opinions are heard on timely topics.
